National Women’s Equality Day: Honoring Women in Leadership
On August 26 of every year, celebrating National Women’s Equality Day reminds us to honor society’s remarkable women in leadership who continue to pave the way for change. This is especially true for us at the LAMB Foundation, a woman-founded and woman-led nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing scholarships, athletic training, and healthcare programs to African youth and communities.
This year, we proudly shine the spotlight on one of our board members and leaders! She is a woman whose resilience, compassion, and motivation empowers and inspires those around her.
As we share her story, may you be inspired to thrive in your own journey!
Meet Lotoya: A Voice for Inclusion and Empowerment
LAMB Foundation proudly presents Ms. Lotoya Simpson! Her passion for helping people thrive at work and within the community has led her to effectively carry her role as a Human Resource Officer.
“As an HR Officer, I enjoy supporting employees, solving workplace issues, and building a positive, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued… My goal is to make a positive impact both inside and outside the workplace.”
Lotoya believes in the importance of giving back to the community. That’s why she engages and stays connected with the people through outreach, volunteer work, and partnerships that strengthen both the LAMB Foundation and the people around it.
How Overcoming Challenges Led to Finding Her Purpose
It is truly remarkable that when asked about her career, Lotoya always describes her roles and responsibilities as things that she enjoys. This shows that she doesn’t show up merely out of obligation, but out of love and purpose.
“My path into Human Resources wasn’t straightforward. Early in my career, I faced several personal challenges, including self-doubt and uncertainty about where I truly belonged professionally.”
Like most of us, Lotoya experienced a work environment lacking in support for its employees. At times, she felt that her potential went unrecognized and there was no opportunity opened to her to invest in her growth. The dismissive air she received from her supervisors made her feel demoralized, to the point of questioning her own abilities and worth.
“But instead of letting that define me, I used it as fuel,” Lotoya recounts. This situation made her realize the importance of having leaders who uplift those who are under their care.
“That experience became my turning point. I decided I wanted to be part of the change. I pursued a career in HR so I could be the kind of support I wished I had: someone who listens, encourages growth, and helps build healthier workplaces.”
After building up her skills and taking every opportunity to learn, Lotoya is now a woman of influence, serving in roles where she could directly impact employee well-being and work culture.
“I also became involved in community outreach because I believe the values of care and inclusion shouldn’t stop at the office door.”
What a Woman Can Do!
Lotoya’s inspirational story started at an early stage in her life, when she faced grief and loss at the passing of her father. She remembers, “It was an incredibly challenging time, emotionally and financially, but I remained focused and committed to my education,”
True to her words, Lotoya kept her motivation to complete her university degree, just after such a tragedy in her life. “What makes it even more meaningful is that I am the only sibling out of nine brothers and sisters to earn a university degree. Achieving this wasn’t just a personal milestone. It was a tribute to the resilience and determination my father instilled in me.”
It is her father’s memory that continues to inspire Lotoya to persevere, lead by example, and support others in reaching their goals no matter the obstacles. Her story is a testament to the values we honor on Women’s Equality Day: perseverance, courage, and leadership!
Serving with the LAMB Foundation
“Since 2016, I have been deeply committed to serving my community and making a positive impact in the lives of others.” That passion is what brought Lotoya to the LAMB Foundation, where she found the space to turn her values into action.
With the LAMB Foundation, Lotoya has supported initiatives that not only uplift individuals but also strengthen entire communities. It enabled her to combine her background in HR with her commitment to outreach and inclusion.
“I’ve helped organize wellness workshops, taken part in volunteer projects, and worked to expand opportunities in communities such as Moores and White Marl [Jamaica] by partnering with local groups. Joining LAMB Foundation represents an opportunity to channel my passion, skills, and experiences into purposeful work that drives real change.”
Lotoya’s work ethics and values are centered beyond immediate impact that doesn’t last. She firmly believes in building a legacy of hope, inclusion, and opportunity for future generations.
LAMB Foundation celebrates National Women’s Equality Day!
Lotoya’s journey sends us this simple, yet important message: Believe in your worth, embrace resilience, and lift others up with you as you rise! Equality happens only when we choose to empower, support, and uphold each other, creating equal opportunities and spaces to succeed.
An empowered woman like Lotoya Simpson would say she is grateful to be part of the LAMB Foundation. But indeed, LAMB Foundation is the one who is proud of Lotoya!
Our goal to make education, athletics, and healthcare more accessible has become even more reachable with the service that Lotoya brings. As we build a brighter future for African youth and underserved communities, we are excited to continue the journey with you!

LAMB FOUNDATION AFFILIATION: Brian James is a member of the Camps Committee. In November, 2015 he was able to host a scholarship game in Clarendon, Jamaica with LAMB Foundation and a host of local supporters (see link to John Green Memorial Scholarship Match Recap). At an event initially planned for 26 registered participants, over 50 high school student athletes were in appearance which highlighted the need that exist for opportunities to play and study abroad. We are actively in phase II of that initiative in supporting those identified for potential scholarships with the application process. We are also putting together the initial launch of the 2016 John Green Memorial Scholarship Match.
OTHER WORK/AFFILIATIONS: Since completing my collegiate studies in 2004 with an MBA from Wright State University in Dayton OH I have been passionately working to do my part to give back to youth development primarily in Jamaica. As a former scholar athlete I received a lot of support sometimes from strangers who invested time and financial resources to aid my goal of earning a degree through athletics. I will always owe and debt of gratitude to those people.
I made a commitment to do the same when I am in a position to uplift other young men through sports and education in ways that will impact not only their lives but the lives of their families and communities. Through my years playing Division I soccer, first at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and finishing up at Wright State University I developed a network of coaching contacts at all levels from Division I, II and Junior College. That network has grown over the years.
I have also maintained a strong network of local coaches and reliable contacts in Jamaica and here in the U.S. who help identify candidates that may be eligible for athletic scholarships. The support provided to these candidates include not only referrals to coaches but administrative and educational support in maneuvering what can be a confusing athletic scholarship application and eligibility process especially for foreign students. That process will include applying for, studying and taking the SAT and or the ACT examination, registering and completing the NCAA Eligibility Center certification, ensuring the appropriate national examination subjects are taken and passed at the right grade levels and securing transcripts reflecting the appropriate educational system conversion. In recent years some of the candidates to earn scholarships with the support of the Foundation in some capacity include Richardo Israel (recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati read more), Jordan Thorpe (University of Wisconsin Milwaukee), Derron Duncan (Lewis & Clarke Community College), Andrew Brown (Cincinnati State), Tevin Brown (Cuyahoga Community College), KeVaughn Blake (Cuyahoga Community College), Xahne Reid (University of Kentucky), Donovan Morgan (Point Park University / Alderson Broaddus University) to name a few.
It is that time of year again everyone! Please take the time to fill out our NEW online application for LAMB Foundation Scholarships.

Congratulations to Webster Pryce and Demacoye Maye who were were selected as recipients of the Naima A. Stennett SAT Scholarship. This scholarship was established to recognize outstanding students in the Caribbean who wish to take the SAT to attend College in the United States.
Webster describes himself as hardworking and as someone who always does his best in everything he does.
Demacoye states one of his favorite quote comes from Colin Powell: “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes determination and hard work” and those words kept him motivated.
Both students have shown through your hard work and determination to be a student that LAMB Foundation wants to recognize and encourage to continue their athletic and educational effort. We at LAMB Foundation would like to wish them both continued success throughout their college career and on.
Back in January of 2014, LAMB Foundation partnered with an existing scholarship, Naima A. Stennett SAT Scholarship. Read more about the scholarship in our last blog post about the scholarship. It has become an official merger of LAMB Foundation in which we are very excited to have an online application. This will enable easier access for those applying for the scholarship, and also more opportunities for new people to fund and support it.
From Naima A. Stennett
I am excited to be partnering with the LAMB Foundation in their pursuit in uplifting education athleticism. In support of student athletes aiming to continuing their education, I have established a SAT Scholarship Fund in 2014. In order to continue the effort of helping international student athletes excel both on the field/court and academically. This scholarship fund will provide scholarships that will cover the FULL cost of the standardized test for college admissions in the United States (SAT) so that they can have the option to receive athletic scholarships in the United States. Presently, there are no scholarships with this specific funding available to international student athletes. Over 10 scholarships have been awarded to date and students have gone on to attend colleges in the United states including George Mason University, Florida State College and Bluefied State College. This is my way of giving back and to help those in need to lessen some of the financial burden of those individuals who have aspirations to play in the United States and further their education. Michelle Obama once said “…when you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity…you do not slam it shut behind you…you reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed…” This is exactly what I want to accomplish with these scholarship, opening a door of infinite opportunities.
It’s official, as of February 2015, LAMB Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization recognized by the IRS.
We would first like to thank everyone, who even without this exemption believed in our mission since the inception in 2008. We have come along way since then, and we don’t plan on stopping now. Our work and progress so far is because of YOU and all YOU have done for us to keep the foundation going.
As the founder of LAMB Foundation, I (Lecia Brown), would personally like to say THANK YOU! You have blessed my life in more ways than you may ever know. You have allowed me to provide assistance to others and be a part of something much bigger than I ever imagined it to be. To everyone that has been affiliated with LAMB Foundation in anyway…DONORS, SPONSORS, TEACHERS, PARTNERS, UNIVERSITIES, COMPANIES, VOLUNTEERS, COMMITTEE MEMBERS, NATIONAL SPORTS ATHLETES, INTERNATIONAL VOLLEYBALL TEAMS, ADVISORS, LAWYERS, WRITERS, REPORTERS, FACEBOOK FOLLOWERS, SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS, PARENTS, COACHES, LAMB CAMP PARTICIPANTS, DRIVERS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY… with tears of joy in my eyes… you have all been a blessing to me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
But…our work is just about to begin. Without this designation we did so much, but now we can do so much more. Some of the perks include the fact that we can:
Apply for grants – as most funders require that organizations are 501(c)(3) Accept Interns – students can receive credit to intern with us and help us grow Accept Donations – Now your future donations can be tax exemption Solicit Donations – Request from large and small business to donate, because now they get a write off.
This is a big step for us as a foundation, and we can’t wait to grow even more with you in the upcoming years.
So…..where do you donate? It’s easy just CLICK HERE!!! 🙂
As requested by our applicants, a new format for LAMB Applications is now available. After a wonderful LAMB Scholarship meeting held on March 10th, we will launch this new online format. While the paper format is still acceptable by either collecting an already printed application at Moores School or downloading from the website; we wanted to make it easy for everyone to apply.
What is new about the application:
You are ONLY required to fill out section A of the application, and then any section related to the scholarship you are applying to. For example, if you are only applying to the Ruth-Ann Schoberg Scholarship you do NOT need to fill out any other sections.
Recommendations Forms can be submitted in 2 ways: You can provide emails for your recommender if you choose to use the online format. We will then send an email to the teacher to fill out the form online. OR you can choose to bring in a SEALED envelope with the completed recommendations to Moores Primary School.
You MUST fill out the entire form at one time. You cannot save the form and return later. Also, you cannot make changes once you submit. If you want to make changes, you must complete the entire application over, or contact LAMB Foundation directly.
If you have any questions on the new format please do not hesitate to contact us at LAMB Foundation. We are happy to answer any questions. Also if you have any issues with the application please let us know so we can fix it immediately. Thank you.
